The office of the Effingham County State's Attorney serves the people of Effingham County, Illinois numbering nearly 32,000. The City of Effingham, with 12,000 citizens, is the county seat of Effingham County. The office of State's Attorney is similar to that of a District Attorney or County Prosecutor in other states and is charged with a wide range of duties and responsibilities which include the following:
Felony, Misdemeanor and Traffic Prosecutions under state law.
Juvenile Actions including Delinquency, abuse and neglect.
Civil Representation of the County and it's Officers and Officials.
Victim/Witness Services

| The State's Attorney supervises a staff of 3 full-time assistant state's attorneys, 1 full-time investigator and four support personnel. The office processes yearly in excess of 250 felony cases, 600 misdemeanor cases and 5,000 traffic cases. The office provides services to victims and to witnesses guiding them through the maze of the legal system. Finally, the State's Attorney represents the County of Effingham in all legal matters and provides legal advice and assistance to other elected and appointed officials of the Effingham County, Illinois. |
